CHARACTERISATION AND PRODUCTION OF POLY (LACTIC ACID)/POLY(ETHYLENE GLYCOL) MICROFIBER VIA MELT DRAWN SPINNING PROCESS

In this study, melt blended compositions of pure PLA with additions polyethylene glycol (PEG) up to 30 wt% were prepared. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), differential scanning calorimeter (DSC), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) used investigate the properties PLA/PEG blends, such as structural, thermal, morphological properties. The results showed that further increments PEG cause -OH group blends show a broad peak, indicating there is hydrogen bonding interaction between chains. DSC result revealed addition decreases glass transition temperature from 57 °C 46 crystallization 107 87 °C. Such trends suggest enhanced chain mobility TGA thermograms into resulted in consistent shift lower decrease thermal stability. Optical microscopy (OM) electron (SEM) observations spun microfibers diameter averaged 15 80 microns.
